Year Four

Queniborough C.E. Primary School > Classes > Year Four

Spring term Website Blurb

We have an exciting Spring Term planned with the introduction of our new CUSP curriculum in many of our subject areas.

English: We are focusing on stories from other cultures including the book ‘The Girl Who Stole an Elephant’ by Nizrana Farook. We are exploring the structure, language and grammatical features associated with writing engaging stories with a view to writing our own story. We will also be looking at adverts as persuasive texts and explanatory texts before moving on to adventure stories.

Our spelling curriculum has changed so there will not be weekly spelling tests.

Maths: This term we will continue to revise the four operations and the formal methods associated with these. We will be working on our understanding of fractions including fraction of shape and amounts as well as time and area and perimeter.

We will continue to work on our times tables knowledge and fluency using TT Rocks and our weekly tables tests.

Science: In science, we will be learning about classification of plants and animals and learning about the characteristics of living things. We will explore using keys and the impact of change on environments.

Art: We are exploring 3D art and collage looking at the human form. We will be creating images with the illusion of movement, looking at drawing using the correct proportions as well as creating 3D figures in the style of Alberto Giacometti.

History: In history we will be finding out about what life was like for the Vikings and exploring their invasions and settlements and comparing them the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans.

Geography: We will be learning about lines of longitude and latitude and how they are relevant. We will be looking at how they help us locate places and show the time zones around the world.

RE: In RE we will be continuing our study of Hinduism and exploring what it means to be a Hindu today.

Computing: We will be exploring programming using logo commands.

PSHE: We will be learning about different aspects of safety (including online safety) and how we manage risks.

PE: This term, Year 4 will be going swimming on Thursday mornings. They will have another PE lesson on Wednesdays initially looking at gymnastics and balancing through individual and pair work.

Music: We will be continuing our weekly ukulele tuition with Mr Stevens.
