SEND at Queniborough CE Primary School

Mrs Katie Spencer is Queniborough CE Primary School’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo).

You can contact her on her working days- Monday to Wednesday using the following email address: kspencer@qps.learnat.uk

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP or Statement of Special Educational Need) naming the school will be admitted even if this means exceeding the agreed PAN.

Putting the child and family at the heart of our SEND processes

We have established a genuine culture of school, family, community and services working together. We actively encourage partnerships with parents through a welcoming ‘open door’ policy. Our aim is to inform and involve parents as much as possible in school decision making and provide them with support, advice and access to services.

We believe in person centered learning and pupils are enabled to be active participants – expressing opinions, making choices and being involved in setting their targets. We are lucky to have a very dedicated staff team, all of whom view themselves as teachers of all pupils, including those with SEND.

Many children come to Queniborough with additional needs. For others, these needs become apparent over time. We recognise the need to provide additional support to these pupils and will do so sensitively and professionally. All children have a right to learn. For some children, this will be more difficult than for others. So, at Queniborough, we endeavour to make every effort to achieve maximum inclusion of all pupils whilst meeting pupils’ individual needs.

We believe that all children have the right to a full, enriching, and enjoyable curriculum, irrespective of race, belief, gender, background, or ability. We aim to meet each child’s requirements, making necessary adaptations and taking into account their needs and wishes. We will consult with children, parents, and outside agencies to help support our good practice. Strengths will be acknowledged as well as difficulties, so that adaptations may be made relevant to the individual child. We focus on individual progress as the main indicator of success.

Every child is valued. Every child is an individual with a personality, needs, and interests. We believe in the right of children to feel safe and to enjoy their school experience – thus developing the whole child, academically, socially, physically, morally, emotionally, and spiritually.

High-quality teaching that is differentiated and personalised will meet the individual needs of the majority of children and young people. Some children and young people need educational provision that is additional to or different from this. This is a special educational provision under Section 21 of the Children and Families Act 2014.

SEN Code of Practice

Intent for children with Special Educational Needs in our school

• To secure high levels of achievement for all.

• To provide an accessible learning environment that is tailored to the individual needs of all pupils.

• To ensure a high level of staff expertise to meet pupil needs, through well-targeted continuing professional development.

• To work closely with external agencies and other professionals to hone and develop our provision for children with SEND.

• Regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND,

• To work in partnership with parents and carers

SEND Policy and other Documents

You will find our SEND Policy here

Click here to read our Accessibility Plan Our Accessibility Plan details how we:

are increasing the extent to which pupils with disabilities can participate in our curriculum

are improving our school’s physical environment to increase the extent to which pupils with disabilities can take advantage of the education, benefits, facilities and services you provide or offer

are improving the delivery to pupils with disabilities of information that is readily accessible to pupils without disabilities

Each year, our SENDCo reviews our SEND policy and places this under consultation for parents. If you are a parent who has a child in our school on the SEND register, we welcome your views by completing our short survey. This has now closed for the 2020-21 academic year.

Each year, we write a SEND Information Report which tells you all about our provision and outcomes for pupils. Click here to read the SEND Information report 2024-25

We also have an Accessibility Policy, which outlines how we adapt our learning environment, provision, and curriculum to suit the needs of all learners.
